It is the life story of Shri Narasimha Saraswati, his philosophy and related stories written by the 15th-16th Century poet Shri Saraswati Gangadhar. Some people regard the book to be historically important as it depicts stories or events which took place around the 14th Century.

About Shri Dattatreya and Shri Guru Charitra
Dattatreya (Sanskrit: दत्तात्रेय, Dattātreya) or Datta. Dattatreya is a Hindu God who is an incarnation of the Divine Trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The word Datta means "Given", Datta is called so because the divine trinity have "given" themselves in the form of a son to the sage couple Atri and Anasuya.
Shri Guru Charitra' is the life of 'Shri Guru Dattatreya' (an incarnation of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara). The Shri GuruCharitra is the life story of Shri Narasimha Saraswati, his philosophy and related stories written by the 15th-16th Century poet Shri Saraswati Gangadhar. Some people regard the book to be historically important as it depicts stories or events which took place around the 14th Century. The book originally had 52 Chapters; the 53rd Chapter of "Avatarnika" summarizes the previous 51 chapters. The whole book is considered a "Mantra" in itself and thus there are very strict rules for reading it. In Datta Sampradaya they consider this as their "Veda"
